Inspiration : Stalks, tall and lean, gently swaying in the night’s breeze, holds a special place in civilization’s rich history. Dating back to ancient Egypt, one of the earliest signs of paper was made using papyrus stalks to create scrolls, directly leading to the dissemination of knowledge and the birth of the written word as we know it. It also played a crucial role in the development of agriculture, enabling the cultivation of crops like corn, wheat, and rice. Stalks have now become symbols of resilience, revealing their secrets of growth and hidden songs.
About the piece : Inspired by its slender form and sunny spirit, we crafted a suit in our Versatile Khadi. A slightly sloppy half-trench with wide sleeves that are cropped by your side. It features a lapel and emphasized flaps along the front of the short jacket. While the trouser is mid to high-waisted by design. It is cut wide and tapers towards the hem. It features two box pleats at the front, an exaggerated drop-crotch, beige-horn buttons and mock pockets at the back. The silhouette is cut to flatter the female figure, resulting in a trouser that pairs well with just about anything. Crafted in an extremely summery color palette, it is the ideal statement for every mood.
The fabric is our Versatile Khadi lined with our Imitation Linen. The khadi is traditionally hand-spun on a wheel, reminiscent of days during our Independence. The typical hand-feel of khadi is stiff with a bit of starch. However, ours is more unconventional because of the way we treat it. Malleable in nature, it absorbs color like a paper napkin.
Each piece is specially hand-dyed, receives an enzyme-wash, and then is cut and made by one tailor—just for you. Our clothes are a little bit complicated to care for like a lover. But, if you treat them well they will reward you in many ways.

Belgian and Italian linen are richer than Indian linen, while Indian cotton has unique and highly desirable feeling compared to many other cottons across the world. We have been very careful not to cross the 4% limit of elastane / polyester in the blend—ensuring that it will at least still de-compose on its own, while keeping micro-plastics to a minimum. Our Adult Swaddle is double-sided; the first layer is Aeromul (100% cotton), and the second layer is Naked Slub (a blend of polyester and viscose). It is never meant to be discarded. It is easy to mend, dry-clean only and will last you forever if you take care of it. Keep in mind it ages like wine and is to be cherished and passed on like an heirloom.

how to care for this technique
This inbred lattice technique is made in our soft Cloud Cotton, a 100% cotton knit with the hand-feel of your favorite t-shirt. We cut up t-shirt fabric and created individual rope that we then wove together, by stitching one strip at a time on top of the next. This is an elaborate process—a sculptural take on embroidery.
As one of the most intricate techniques in the Obataimu family, we urge you to treat it with care.
STEAM CLEAN ONLY :
1. It’s best to do this yourself at home with a professional home steamer or pocket steamer if you are traveling.
2. If you do take it to a dry-cleaner, let them clearly know this piece CANNOT BE DRY-CLEANED but only steam-cleaned.

While the shipping industry is essential to the world’s economy and well-being, we are aware of its contributing factors on the global greenhouse gas emissions that are released into our atmosphere. If you must hand-wash; start by filling the container with cold water. Add just a pinch of non-toxic / acid and phosphate free laundry powder, and dip the piece in for a maximum of 5 minutes. Do not twist and squeeze on removal, instead lay it flat on the rack to dry. Never put the piece in a dryer or leave it out in the sun to dry.
You can steam or flat iron this piece with no difficulty. It’s not super prone to wrinkling but that doesn’t mean it’s wrinkle-free. The best way to travel with Obataimu is with a pocket steamer. Once you invest in one, you will never travel without it.
