Think of the old school Indian aesthete that Utpal Dutt (a Bengali actor) plays in Satyajit Ray’s (a prominent Indian director) film, The Stranger. It is a tailored casual blazer made in a palette inspired by the colors of food at a Bengali sit down dinner. The coolest thing it is the fabric— our Versatile Khadi that co-operates with the need to roll-up one’s sleeves to eat. It features two slits at the back for fit while the cuff has one button for ease. Another special thing about the jacket is it is designed with two different types of front pockets; a pocket with a flap and a pocket without. Pair this with a classic fitted t-shirt, a formal shirt, a printed vest, a crop top or easy racerbacks. This blazer was designed with the intention of picking a different color for each day of the week. Not to mention, it’s perfect for the lazy dresser.
The fabric is our Versatile Khadi. It is traditionally hand-spun on a wheel, reminiscent of days during our Independence. The typical hand-feel of khadi is stiff with a bit of starch. However, ours is more unconventional because of the way we treat it. Malleable in nature, it falls more like a heavy linen. It absorbs color like a paper napkin and adapts to every mood.
Each piece is specially hand-dyed, receives an enzyme-wash, and then is cut and made by one tailor—just for you. Our clothes are a little bit complicated to care for like a lover. But, if you treat them well they will reward you in many ways.

Belgian and Italian linen are richer than Indian linen, while Indian cotton has unique and highly desirable feeling compared to many other cottons across the world. This is a viscose and polyester blend knit, designed to feel like a second skin to the body. We have been very careful not to cross the 4% limit of elastane / polyester in the blend—ensuring that it will at least still de-compose on its own, while keeping micro-plastics to a minimum. Our Adult Swaddle is double-sided; the first layer is Aeromul (100% cotton), and the second layer is Naked Slub (a blend of polyester and viscose). It is never meant to be discarded. It is easy to mend, dry-clean only and will last you forever if you take care of it. Keep in mind it ages like wine and is to be cherished and passed on like an heirloom.

how to care for this technique
This inbred lattice technique is made in our soft Cloud Cotton, a 100% cotton knit with the hand-feel of your favorite t-shirt. We cut up t-shirt fabric and created individual rope that we then wove together, by stitching one strip at a time on top of the next. This is an elaborate process—a sculptural take on embroidery.
As one of the most intricate techniques in the Obataimu family, we urge you to treat it with care.
STEAM CLEAN ONLY :
1. It’s best to do this yourself at home with a professional home steamer or pocket steamer if you are traveling.
2. If you do take it to a dry-cleaner, let them clearly know this piece CANNOT BE DRY-CLEANED but only steam-cleaned.
3. THIS CANNOT BE HAND-WASHED NOR CAN IT BE MACHINE-WASHED.

We want to switch gears from the one-click shopping culture to more thoughtful consumption, keeping air pollution from e-commerce in consideration too. While the shipping industry is essential to the world’s economy and well-being, we are aware of its contributing factors on the global greenhouse gas emissions that are released into our atmosphere. Every year, the shipping industry is responsible for approximately 2.89% of CO2 gases emitted globally. If you must hand-wash; start by filling the container with cold water. Add just a pinch of non-toxic / acid and phosphate free laundry powder, and dip the piece in for a maximum of 5 minutes. Do not twist and squeeze on removal, instead lay it flat on the rack to dry. Never put the piece in a dryer or leave it out in the sun to dry.
You can steam or flat iron this piece with no difficulty. It’s not super prone to wrinkling but that doesn’t mean it’s wrinkle-free. The best way to travel with Obataimu is with a pocket steamer. Once you invest in one, you will never travel without it.
Do not machine wash this piece.
If you prefer to leave it to the professionals, just give it to the dry-cleaners and it will come back perfectly.

We cut up t-shirt fabric and created individual rope that we then wove together, by stitching one strip at a time on top of the next. This is an elaborate process—a sculptural take on embroidery.
